Parhelion Round the Astoria Column

A weather phenomenon known as a sun dog or parhelion arches encircles the Astoria Column. The luminous halo is created when sunlght is refracted through cold and high cirrus clouds. The tower stands 125 feet (38 m) tall and overlooks Astoria and the Columbia River from Coxcomb Hill.
